The Pioneer DJ DJM-V10 DJ Mixer has been designed to provide creative DJs with the freedom to express themselves using advanced effects routing and superior sound quality.

It’s clear that the design brief for the V10 didn’t include the word compromise! Pioneer DJ have delivered the best sounding mixer yet in the DJM series, which is quite an achievement given that the DJM-900NXS2 is widely regarded as one of the best sounding mixers in clubland. The V10 utilises an ultra-high performance ESS Technology DAC to produce an unsurpassed sound stage with up to 124 dB dynamic range and super low distortion – the warm, rounded sound delivered is truly amazing.

Once the sound quality was nailed, the next task was to focus on the creative aspects of the mixer and again the no-compromise approach to the V10 is clear. The selectable low/high pass filter, which is usually a sound colour effect, now has dedicated resonance control in addition to a per channel wet/dry pot. The built-in send effects can only be described as sound colour FX on steroids – short and long delay, reverb and dub echo all have dedicated controls for size/feedback, time, tone and master mix level. If you’d prefer to use your own effect pedals etc. there’s also the option to route the signal to an external effect unit. Speaking of routing, the V10 has a nifty trick up its sleeve – you can route the output of the send effects to a channel for further processing, enabling further manipulation of the audio.

The eagle eyed will have noticed the return of Pioneer DJs three band isolator – last seen on the DJM-1000, this allows for precise EQ of the overall signal. The beat FX section now includes the new shimmer effect and the DJM-V10 has a nice touchscreen to control parameters on the fly. Each channel has dedicated 4 band EQ, the high and low are isolator EQs while the low/high mid controls provide up to 26dB cut.

For the upfront DJ, playing the latest tracks from the studio that may not have been mastered, Pioneer DJ have equipped the V10 with a handy comp control. This is effectively mastering on the fly – the results are quite impressive; the comp does a great job of boosting loudness and sound quality without sacrificing the dynamics of the source material.

As the DJM-V10 offers six channels, Pioneer DJ decided to ensure that back 2 back DJ sets would be catered for. The mixer has 2 dedicated headphone monitoring sections (which can be linked if required) and each channel can be routed to either headphone output. The headphone controls allow for pre and post eq monitoring. While on the subject of monitoring, the booth output has two band EQ which is independent from the main output, this is a nice touch – allowing DJs to control what they hear without compromising the main output.

In addition to all of the above the DJM-V10 offers two USB connections for users of Rekordbox, Traktor, Serato DJ (to be added at a later date) and has Pro DJ Link Extended Show Kontrol capabilities. DJs can also send MIDI data to outboard using the MIDI output and the IEC socket is lockable to prevent accidental disconnection from the mains.

The V10 is perfect for professional DJs that want to take complete control of their DJ sets, it’s a serious upgrade for users of the DJM-900NXS2 and is sure to turn the heads of those using boutique gear.
